RINCON, Ga. (WTOC) – An Effingham County woman is hoping to have her plans approved to create the first farmers market in Rincon. WTOC spoke with the market hopeful to hear her plan and find out how it could benefit the community.
The area behind, known as Freedom Park, is where Stephanie Mondt said she hopes to host the Rincon Farmers Market.
Mondt said because of its location, size and access to electricity, Freedom Park is a perfect place to host local farmers and vendors weekly for people to buy from.
She also said her idea is to have live music and entertainment at the market once a month.
“I want somewhere we can grow into and not necessarily grow out of and have to change two weeks into the season,” said Mondt.
She said she’s already spoken with the city once and that they told her to look into how much running the market would cost, including thins like insurance and licenses.
Mondt will present her plans at the city council’s Aug. 26 meeting to get approval for the location and dates.
“That meeting is going to decide if it’s a city project or a by the people, for the people market. I’m excited either way,” said Mondt.
If the city council decides not to approve Modnt’s plan, she said the market will still happen. She said she has other potential locations lined up that will also work for hosting the market.
No matter where the market ends up, Mondt said people will be able to enjoy everything it has to offer, such as farm produced foods and items from local artists and makers.
Mondt has already created a Facebook page for the market, and she said the support she’s received so far from people has been amazing. She says it’s made her more hopeful than she’s ever been for the future of the Rincon Farmers Market.
