Waste Management Norms: 5 housing societies fined for flouting waste management

Gurgaon: MCM has issued challans to five residential societies and MCG to 21 violators on Monday for not following solid waste management rules.In a survey of residential societies in new sectors conducted by MCM, it was found that Signature Rosalia, Vatika Enviro, Vardhman Flora, Avenue and Ananda Society left the dirty water of bulk waste generators (BWG) and sewerage treatment plant (STP) untreated.A senior official said a total of Rs 3.2 lakh have been issued as challans to the five societies with a warning for further action in case of non compliance and improper disposal of waste.According to the orders of MCM commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg, the Swachhta Branch inspected the societies and the team under Mahavir Singh Sodhi issued a challan of Rs 1.2 lakh to the Signature Rosalia Society in Sector 95. They also instructed the society management to dispose of the garbage properly.The remaining fur societies were issued penalties of Rs 50,000 each during the STP inspection.The MCG is running a special cleanliness campaign under the Solid Waste Environment Exigency Programme (SWEEP) and initiated action against violators who are disposing garbage in open.On Monday, during inspection in all the four zones, the corporation teams caught 21 violators who were dumping garbage in the open.The team issued total challans of Rs 10,500 to all of them on the spot. “The zone-1 team imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on four persons, zone-2 team imposed a fine of Rs 4,000 on eight persons, zone-3 team imposed a fine of Rs 2,500 on five persons, and zone-4 team imposed a fine of Rs ,2000 on four persons” an MCG official informed.
