Seattle traffic: Full I-405 closure ahead, plus eastbound I-90

Summer construction will close miles of Interstate 405 this weekend in the Eastside.

The highway will be closed in both directions from 11 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation, as part of its I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project.

The project, to be completed by 2025, adds a lane in each direction. The highway in each direction will have two toll lanes and two general lanes.

The northbound closure will be from North Southport Drive in Renton to 112th Avenue Southeast in Bellevue. The southbound closure will be from Coal Creek Parkway Southeast in Bellevue to Northeast 30th Street in Renton.

WSDOT contractors will be demolishing the existing 112th Avenue Southeast bridge along I-405. Crews will also be installing drainage crossings under the highway during the closure.

Signs will guide drivers around the detour in both directions, along Coal Creek Parkway, Duvall Avenue and Highway 900. But those routes cannot accommodate normal I-405 traffic volume. WSDOT advises travelers to plan ahead, travel during off-peak hours or, if possible, delay travel to help minimize backups.

Drivers should also note eastbound Interstate 90 from Seattle to Mercer Island will be closed 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday for tunnel maintenance.
