NTPC targets 17% growth in coal production by FY25 – Industry News

On Sunday, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) announced that it has established a 40 million metric tonnes (MMT) production target for coal production from its owned mines by 2024–2025. According to an NTPC statement, the ambitious goal will assist NTPC in achieving a notable 17% annual growth in captive coal output.

The announcement states that NTPC’s goal for FY25 is to produce 40 MMT of coal from its owned mines. Through captive mines, this will meet more than 15% of the coal requirement for FY25. It continued, bolstering fuel security for the power major.

As of March 31, 2024, the company had produced 34.38 MMT of coal, with a coal despatch of 34.15 MMT. In order to attain consistent expansion in the output of coal, NTPC has employed several tactics and innovations. Stricter safety regulations, better mine planning, automated machinery, employee education, and the deployment of ongoing monitoring and analysis systems are a few of these. According to the statement, these efforts have been crucial in streamlining processes, increasing output, and guaranteeing worker safety.

In order to improve operations and help the country achieve its energy targets, the corporation will keep looking into cutting-edge technologies and environmentally friendly methods, it continued.
