Jackson woman wants to know why her water bill is more than $3,000

A Jackson woman with a $3,000 water bill is looking for answers and help.Sandra Harris said she can’t pay the sky-high bill by herself. She said she’s reached out to JXN Water to find out why the bill is so high.“I don’t understand how my bill is jumping up from $1,000, (and another) $1,000, (and another) $1,000,” Harris said. “I am wondering why I’m getting a bill so high like that. We don’t use that much. I just wash on Saturday, unless I need it for washing, or something.”According to Harris, when she called JXN Water to complain, she said someone told her: “It must be a problem; something wrong. You must have a leak on your property.’ It’s something else,” Harris said.Harris believes that something else started in February after a crew with the gas company was working on the gas line ruptured a water line, which spewed water for two days. Harris said, mysteriously, water has been running from the side of her home into the garage and down the driveway.“I don’t know where it’s coming from,” she said. “At one time, they said it was my neighbor’s house that was leaking.”Ameerah Palacios, with JXN Water, said they’ll have to research Harris’ case. “Customer billing issues are very complicated and resolving them takes the customer working with JXN Water to fully understand how we can best help them,” Palacios said in a statement. JXN Water will look at the call history, billing payments and verify if there was a leak on the property, Palacios said. “We encourage customers to call us and work out the issue with the people who can help them by calling 601-500-5200,” Palacios said.
