Several homes are without gas service after a natural gas line leak in Albuquerque on Wednesday afternoon, June 5.A unit for Albuquerque Fire Rescue was sent to the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Alvarado Drive NE for the report of a natural gas leak. It said 32 homes are without service and the repairs are expected to go into the evening and possibly even later than midnight.During the response, the gas ignited and became a threat to homes and vehicles in the area. The New Mexico Gas Company also responded and reported the line would need to be shut off in two other locations.Six homes were evacuated while the line was burning, according to New Mexico Gas Company.Albuquerque fire personnel were able to contain the flames and protect homes and vehicles from catching on fire. The fire was extinguished once the gas company was able to shut off the natural gas flow.The fire was brought under control after an hour and a half before 3 p.m., according to the New Mexico Gas Company.One civilian did suffer from minor injuries but did not need to be transported to the hospital.
