SPENCER, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local church in Spencer, Indiana is in need of some help.
Last week on April 2, the Coal City Community Bible Church was struck by lightning, resulting in a fire. Luckily no one was injured, but the church is a total loss. The church has been a part of the community for many years with programs for all age groups.
Jefferson Township Trustee Daryl Casper said that another church stepped in to help make sure Coal City Community Bible Church could still have its service.
“The Jefferson Baptist Church just on the corner here offered their (Jefferson) building for their (Coal City) Sunday service and so I attended that with my wife, we wanted to support them, and I was really encouraged. They were upbeat. It’s a loss. That church had been here almost 40 years, 35, 40 years,” he said.
Casper is asking the community to help raise funds to help rebuild the Coal City Community Bible Church.
“My desire is this will pull the community together and that’s really what I hope will happen. And try to make some change because it is a part of our community,” he said.
Those who are interested in making a donation can learn more on the Coal City Community Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page.
