Kitchen workshop offered Saturday

Solana Center for Environmental Innovation hosts a free “Fight Climate Change in Your Kitchen” workshop from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the San Ysidro Library, 4235 Beyer Blvd., San Diego. Solana Center’s speakers will share practical solutions to reduce food waste in the home, and discuss how using these ideas in daily life can be a great way to help the environment and save money. Belmont Park holds hiring fair with city

Belmont Park’s annual hiring fair, Jobapalooza, takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at 3146 Mission Blvd., San Diego. This event will connect job seekers with local employers from a variety of industries, including hospitality, service, ride operators and more. Learn about available positions and submit resumes and applications on-site. The Jobapalooza hiring fair is a collaboration of Belmont Park, local businesses and the city of Mission Beach. San Ysidro STEM Fair set for Friday

The Fleet Science Center will be featured at the second San Ysidro STEM Fair taking place from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Friday at Smythe Elementary School, 1880 Smythe Ave. This free event for the community will offer hands-on science, technology, engineering and math activities, learning demonstrations, interactions with STEM professionals and community resources. San Ysidro High School’s Cougarbots will lead robotics demonstrations and STEM professionals will be available to chat about STEM opportunities in San Diego. Community resources, including San Diego’s Live Well on Wheels bus, will be available, and the event also features raffles and giveaways, plus face painting. Martial arts studio holds ‘kickathon’

Amanda’s Adaptive Martial Arts, which teaches martial arts to kids with special needs, holds a fundraising “Kickathon” from noon to 4 p.m. April 30 at Robb Field, 2525 Bacon St., San Diego. The children have signed up sponsors per kick or at a flat rate. They then have to kick the pads as many times as they can in one minute. The child who gets the most kicks wins a prize. Altrusa Club event hosts 170 guests

The Altrusa Club of Chula Vista Inc. Foundation recently hosted Denim and Diamonds, their first luncheon fundraiser since 2020, at Loews Coronado Bay Resort. Thanks to the 170 guests in attendance, the club raised more than $43,600 to help improve literacy and to foster education for the underserved. Julie Robello, Altrusa Club president, presented the club’s first Literacy Champion Award to Matthew Tessier, San Diego County Office of Education Assistant Superintendent of Innovation, for the work that he and his team have done to help local children. Toastmasters offer Speechcraft training

Voyagers Toastmasters is hosting a six-week Speechcraft communication and leadership training program starting Thursday. The program aims to improve participants’ communication, leadership, public speaking and critical-thinking skills. Speechcraft will be presented in person from 6:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on six consecutive Thursdays at Lestat’s Coffee Shop, 3343 Adams Ave., San Diego, as well as via Zoom. Registration opens Friday at community colleges

Open registration for summer classes in the San Diego Community College District begins Friday. Students can choose from hundreds of classes at San Diego City, Mesa and Miramar colleges and the San Diego College of Continuing Education. Summer session classes at the credit colleges start June 5. Tuition fees are $46 per unit. Also, open registration for fall begins May 22 with classes starting Aug. 21 at City, Mesa and Miramar colleges. Classes will be offered in more than 400 academic programs with flexible hours from short-term, late start, Saturday and online course options.
