Residents Seek Better Waste Mgmt To Improve City Ratings | Lucknow News

Lucknow: If Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) saw 17% decline in the public feedback category from previous year in the Swachh Survekshan 2023 rankings poor garbage collection and disposal were the reasons. As per the survey report, in Citizen Voice category, a measure of resident feedback, ratings dropped from 83% in 2022 to 66% in 2023.Residents said they face overflowing bins, open dumping, and inadequacies in waste collection services. They suggested that to improve ratings LMC must boost waste collection, improve manpower and enhance resident communication. Additionally, they emphasised the need to prioritise sanitation over beautification and involve residents in the process.Soumya Wadhwa, a resident of Jankipuram Sangam apartment, said: “Since LMC workers don’t come for garbage collection in our localities, this leads us to hire private services every few days to manage the situation and prevent the stench.” She added that the city’s rating had to fall because LMC doesn’t pay heed to their complaints.Rishabh Tiwari from Rae Bareli Road Omaxe City said: “For the past one month, we’ve had no choice but to dump garbage in the open. It has become a health hazard, with flies and stray animals everywhere.” Tiwari said LMC needs to invest in proper sanitation to improve feedback.Similar views were expressed by other residents who claimed that LMC’s sanitation workers are often late and unresponsive.Anjali Singh from Balaganj said: “Every time we complain, they promise to send someone tomorrow, which never comes. The only thing that stays consistent is the stench and the mess.” “My house is in front of the dumping site. It’s embarrassing especially when we have visitors as the house too smells like a dump,” said Ritu Sharma from City station. She urged LMC to engage with residents and consider shifting the dumping site.Rajeev Gupta in Aliganj complained that the city spends more on making things look nice than keeping it clean. “What’s the point of a pretty park if the air is so bad that you can’t even breathe?” he asked. Sunita Devi in Hazratganj said: “We pay our taxes, so we should get better than this.”
