Prices for liquefied petroleum gas increase by 12% and for natural commercial gas by 50% in Kazakhstan

AKIPRESS.COM – Prices for liquefied petroleum gas increased by 12% in Kazakhstan from July 1, while prices for natural commercial gas (methane) increased for certain categories of consumers (large commercial enterprises and miners) by 50%, Energy Monitor says.

“The wholesale gas price in Kazakhstan is one of the lowest in the world and amounts to about 20,640 tenge per 1,000 m3. The containment of prices for commercial gas in Kazakhstan has led to the fact that the cost exceeds the approved prices by 150–200% in Kyzylorda, Aktobe, Atyrau regions, as well as an annual decrease in the potential of domestic production,” the Ministry of Energy noted.

According to the Ministry of Energy, low prices reduce the investment opportunities for the gas industry. Subsoil users lose interest in developing gas fields due to the unprofitability of the gas industry, the Ministry says.

A sharp increase in gas consumption is expected from 18.5 billion m3 in 2023 to 32.1 billion m3 of gas by 2028 due to the implementation of large infrastructure projects in industry and petrochemicals, and active gasification of the regions.
