PECO Plans Major Pipeline Installation Project On Newtown-LMT Border

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — PECO announced plans this week for a major multi-million-dollar natural gas line installation project this spring along Lindenhurst Road, which forms the boundary between Newtown Township and neighboring Lower Makefield.

Beginning in mid-May and continuing for the next five months, work crews will be installing nearly 9,000 feet of steel natural gas main along the roadway as part of a project to upgrade its natural gas distribution system for customers in Lower Makefield, Newtown Township, and Bucks County.

PECO said construction will begin at the Newtown Bypass and will require lane closures or a detour for the entirety of the project.

According to PECO, here’s what drivers and residents can expect during the construction project:

  • For the first several weeks, work will take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday and will require overnight lane closures.
  • Work will then shift to between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday to Friday for the remainder of the project requiring a detour, which will send traffic around the construction zone via Stoopville Road, Route 532 and the Newtown Bypass.
  • For a four-week window, Lindenhurst Road will close completely. Additional details about the closure will be communicated in advance.
  • The detour will begin at the intersection of Dolington Road, Stoopville Road and Lindenhurst Road. It will proceed west on Stoopville ROad to Washington Crossing Road (Route 532)and return east on the Newtown Bypass.
  • Emergency access, mail and package delivery, trash removal and school bus transportation will be maintained throughout the construction project.
  • Excavation along Lindenhurst Road will occur, followed by natural gas main pipe installation.

PECO said the improvement is part of its investment of approximately $9.3 billion over the next five years across its natural gas and electric systems to complete targeted system enhancements and corrective maintenance, invest in new equipment, inspect equipment and perform necessary tree trimming and other vegetation management.
