Experts talk water in the oil and gas industry at local conference

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – Experts came together to talk about water in the oil and gas industry, as well as seismic activity in West Texas, at the Water in Energy Conference this week in the Bush Convention Center.

“We’re having our sixth annual Water in Energy Conference, which is a convergence of knowledge subject matter experts that work in water in the oil and gas sector each and every day.”

Many people may not know how much water is a part of daily oil production.

“So if you’re in the oil and gas business using hydraulic fracturing to liberate this gas and oil from the rock, you’re in the water business, so in this particular region of the world, for every barrel of oil we produce, we produce six barrels of water, so water management is a big part of the equation.”

“There’s probably this preconceived notion that okay oil field water, incredibly dirty, toxic, nasty, smelly stuff, there’s nothing you can do with that other than just pump it down a well, a toilet effectively, out of sight out of mind. What I am here to say is we absolutely know that there are technologies out there that can repurpose that water.”
