Management Of Health Sector Unfairly Criticised, Says Tufton | RJR News

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says he and his team have been unfairly criticised for their management of the country’s health sector.

There have been several calls over the years for his resignation as Minister, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

But speaking earlier this week at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Spanish Town Hospital, Dr. Tufton commended Prime Minister Andrew Holness for not yielding to the critics and removing him from the portfolio.

Noting that he has been in the role for almost eight years, the Health Minister admitted that the journey has not been smooth, but he said it has given him “a vantage point to see the transformation and to see the plans and the challenges and how they have unfolded”.

He insisted that Jamaica’s health services sector is a major challenge for any Minister and the portfolio should be non-political and universal.

“And that’s what I want to be represented here, both tangibly in terms of the structures, in terms of the people, but also symbolically, in terms of the message that we need to send to the length and breadth of Jamaica, to every single Jamaican,” he said.
