About the property
This historic home was built around 1921 by Arnold and Stern Architects for the Wile family, pioneers in the clothing industry, according to Holly Creek Homes. The Webster Museum and Historical Society states that Solomon Wile had the house built for his daughter, Lulu Jean Wile. Wile was tragically killed by a trolley near his law office in Rochester in 1931. Later that year, his daughter sold the 910 Lake Road home to William Barton Hale, president of the Lawyers Cooperative Publishing Company. The house then stayed within the Hale family.
This “Nantucket-style” home has been updated through the years with modern amenities and a remodeled exterior. The 3,368-square-foot house sits on a 1.8-acre lot with approximately 300 feet of lake frontage. A stone path in the backyard leads to steps that descend directly to Lake Ontario. There are several outdoor seating areas with picturesque lake views, including arched porticoes and a vine-covered arbor. The property also includes a two-car garage.
The primary suite in the lakefront home is on the third floor. It includes a walk-in cedar closet and vaulted ceilings with skylights. The suite also features a sleeping porch that opens to a private balcony with views of Lake Ontario. A laundry room and a living room are located on the second floor. The kitchen features granite countertops, an original butler’s pantry, and a breakfast nook. The house also has four fireplaces (two are wood-burning) and a finished attic.
