Thousands still without power on another warm day


Thousands of homes and businesses in New Jersey remain without power on Monday hours on another steamy day of warm weather across the state.

As of 1:30 p.m., more than 5,700 outages were reported, down from a peak of 43,000 overnight after strong thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening.

Temperatures are mainly in the low 80s with breezy conditions and lower humidity in New Jersey Monday afternoon, a reprieve from a week-long stretch of 90-plus degree readings in most of the state.

Around mid-morning, there were more than 15,000 outages across the stare before the number dropped a short time later.

Temperatures are expected to climb back into the 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a heat index of around 100 on Wednesday.
