Tanner James Talbott | News, Sports, Jobs


Mr. Tanner James Talbott, 23, a resident of Belington, was taken from this life due to a senseless tragedy Friday evening, March 15, 2024, at Philippi.

He was born June 12, 2000, at Elkins, West Virginia, a son of Brian Paul and Rhonda Lea Kelley Talbott.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Adeline “Addi” “Poo” Talbott, who was the love of his life; and his fiance, Allison “Alli” Phillips, of Philippi; and a brother, Taylor Paul Talbott, who he considered his best friend.

Additional survivors include his maternal grandmother, Mary Hamlin Kelley of Philippi; paternal grandmother, Dottie Talbott of Belington; great-grandmother, Eileen Rodriguez Hamlin of Clarksburg; great-grandmother, Waneta Weese Wheeler of Ohio; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a whole host of friends, including his coal mining family.

Also surviving is a special friend and hunting buddy, Brandon Messenger, who would always be there for Tanner at the drop of a hat with no questions asked; two bonus mothers, Heidi Phillips and Amy Rollins; and his special hunting buddies, Brandon, Travis, Jordan, Ross, Ryan and Tim.

Tanner was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Paul Nolan Talbott; and his maternal grandfather, Roger Lee Kelley.

Tanner was a 2018 graduate of Philip Barbour High School and graduated from the Fred W. Eberle Technical Center Welding Program. He was currently employed with Leer South Mining, where he was a shift foreman. Tanner truly loved his mining occupation and stated that it was in his blood. Tanner was an avid deer and bear hunter, loved to fish and in his teenage years he raced quads, traveling the east coast where he made several life long friends. Tanner’s family can take peace in knowing that he has been reunited with both of his “Pap’s.”

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. and again on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Johnny Paul Williams II officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery near Philippi.

In lieu of flowers there has been a fund established at B.C. Bank to pay for special needs children to be able to go bear hunting: B.C. Bank P.O. Box 370 Philippi, WV 26416.
